Keep Your Air-conditioning System in Good Working Order
Keep your air conditioning system in good working order with regular check-ups.
Air Conditioning Components
Car air conditioning systems require a number of components to be in good working order to ensure optimum cooling efficiency. This includes the compressor, the hoses, valves, receiver drier, condenser, evaporator and most importantly – the level of refrigerant gas.
Maintenance Checks
Levels of refrigerant gas can reduce over time and systems will need to be regassed. Before your automotive technician carries out this service, they will check with ultraviolet light for any obvious signs of gas leaking. They will then evacuate the system and add a small amount of gas and test the operation of the air conditioning. If the visible components appear to be all working correctly, and no signs of leaking, they will then regas the system.
Sometimes leaks can be miniscule, or in hard to detect places like the evaporator. They may take weeks or months to become apparent.
Air Conditioning Filters
Another important factor in the performance of your car’s air conditioning system is the cabin/pollen filter. This filter helps stop dust, dirt and pollution from entering the cabin of your vehicle through the vents. All manufacturers recommend this filter be replaced at regular intervals to ensure good quality air flow through the vents. A dirty pollen filter can have a negative effect on the cooling efficiency and air flow through the vents.
